The HEPEX Biannual International Workshop was successfully held at the University of Melbourne on 6-8 February 2018.

HEPEX grew from a Hydrological Ensemble Prediction Experiment and has become the international peak community of research and practice to advance hydrological ensemble prediction.

Professor QJ Wang from the Department of Infrastructure Engineering and Co-chair of HEPEX said the workshop was hosted by the University of Melbourne along with CSIRO and the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM).

“It was attended by 120 people, including most of the world top experts in this field. This included researchers, forecasting system developers and operators of leading agencies including the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts, UK Met Office, Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, APEC Climate Centre and New Zealand National Institute of Water and Atmosphere,” he said.

“There were representatives from Europe, the United States, Canada, China, South Korea, Japan and New Zealand in attendance.

“There was a strong industry presence. From Australia, representatives from BoM, MDBA, Melbourne Water, Snowy Mountain Hydro and many other organisations attended along with water engineering consultants.”
