Abbas Rajabifard named spatial professional of the year
Professor Abbas Rajabifard was named the 2015 Professional of the Year at the Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards, as part of the Locate16 Conference in Melbourne, on Wednesday 13 April, 2016.
Professor Rajabifard has been recognised as exemplary in promoting the spatial profession by his peers in the industry. The award is presented annually by the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute and recognises individuals at the pinnacle of their career.
In addition, to being Head of the Department of Infrastructure Engineering at the University of Melbourne, Professor Rajabifard is also the Director of the Centre for Spatial Data Infrastructures and Land Administration (CSDILA). He is immediate Past-President of the Global Spatial Data Infrastructures Association and is also an Executive Board member of this Association. He is a member of the Joint Board of Geospatial Information Societies and was Vice Chair for the Spatially Enabled Government Working Group of the UN Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific.
Professor Rajabifard has spent his career researching, developing, applying and teaching spatial information management and strategies for Spatial Data Infrastructures and Land Administration in order to produce benefits to both the government and the wider society. He is driven in his belief that the surveying and spatial science professions play an integral role in the vision of a sustainable future.
His knowledge within the field of Spatial Data Infrastructure, Land Administration and Spatial Enablement is acknowledged globally and he is well deserving of this prestigious award from the Surveying and Spatial Science Institute.
