3D Printing Showcase: 9 October 2015

3D-denturesThe third annual 3D Printing Showcase is two-day opportunity to discover how this new technology is shaping our world and meet with the people who are making it happen. Bringing the latest ideas, technology and experts under one roof, this free event is open to children, adults and anyone with an interest in 3D printing.

The first day of the event focuses on research and education, exploring how we can integrate 3D printing into the curriculum. Dr David Ackland, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, will present the 3D printed jaw design that was recently implanted in a patient and Professor Peter Choong will discuss the use of 3D printing in surgery and its place in the future of medicine.

Victorian students will compete in the 3D PrintACar Challenge, where students design, 3D Print and race a car.

The second day invites the wider community to come along and discover how 3D printing can shape our our society. In the Shark’s Den Challenge, teams will pitch their products to a panel of industry experts, including Dean of the Melbourne School of Engineering, Professor Iven Mareels.
