PhD student using engineering experience to aid relief efforts in Nepal
PhD student in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering, Tilak Pokharel, will return to his home country of Nepal this week to aid in relief efforts in the wake of last month’s devastating earthquake.
Tilak will join an Australian Earthquake Engineering Society team, using his experience as an earthquake engineer to assess building damage in Nepal.
He spoke to ABC News 24’s The World about his upcoming trip, along with Associate Professor Helen Goldsworthy from the Department of Infrastructure Engineering. They discussed what needed to be done to ensure buildings in Nepal are more resilient to earthquakes.
