Highlighting the worrying scientific brain drain in this country, Professor Suzanne Cory will present her acclaimed lecture ‘People for Science’, discussing the lack of women at science’s highest levels. Professor Cory, one of Australia’s most distinguished molecular biologists, is currently an Honorary Distinguished Professorial Fellow at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research.
The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Professor Karen Day, Dean of Science; Professor Iven Mareels, Dean of Engineering; Ms Georgina Such, Department of Chemistry; and will be chaired by Professor Margaret Sheil, Provost, University of Melbourne. The event provides guests with unique opportunity to explore the issues facing women in STEM disciplines, focusing closely on the barriers women face in an academic environment.
