Engineering PhD student Kerry Halupka discusses her work at Bionic Vision Australia

Engineering PhD student Kerry Halupka has spoken about her work on the Bionic Eye in a podcast interview from Bionic Vision Australia. Kerry is a research student with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Melbourne. She is currently 18 months into her Phd, conducting research on the electrodes within the device that send information to the user’s visual cortex.

Kerry tells BVA’s Florienne Loder that she has always been passionate about vision, ever since a close family member of hers was diagnosed with a very rare eye condition that will eventually leave her blind.

“That was shocking for me and made me realise that vision literally changes the way we see the world. I feel like it’s an incredibly important sense and  if there’s anything that I can do to help people who lose their vision, I want to do that.”
